How To Fix Contact Form 7 Emails Going To Spam In Gmail

Spam In Gmail

Contact Form 7 is a common worpress plugin used on WordPress sites.

It works great for simple contact forms.

But lately, I saw several contact form 7 emails related to spam in Gmail.

I thought how to fix it in my situation. When you're debugging this issue, try some troubleshooting tips.

“From” Address is Flagged

In Contact Form 7 (version 4.0.1 and above), wordpress@yourdomain.com is used for email from newly created contact form. Gmail marks this as a potential spam. One thing to try is adding an email account to your site, and using this address under the mail> edit from the contact form screen.

You can set up new email accounts on cPanel by going to Mail > Email Accounts. Add this email address to your Contacts in Gmail. Adding contacts tells Gmail that messages from those addresses are a priority.

If you have a Gmail email address in the Mail > From box on Contact Form 7, Gmail may flag this as a phishing attempt. It does this because the From header says the email is coming from a Gmail server, but Google sees that the message is coming from your server. Making sure the From email address header and the originating email server match will keep it from being flagged as suspicious.

Most of the time, it will be enough to solve the problem. If you still have your contact form messages going to Spam, here are some more things you can try.

Create Gmail filters

Many people do not know that you can create a filter on your incoming Gmail. This is actually something I would like to learn more about.

To keep your contact form out of spam, send a test email from the contact form on your website. Find this message (or other contact form email) in Gmail and open it. In the top right-hand menu, select Filter messages like these. You can make it as specific as you want, but for now, make sure your special contact form is in the filter from the email input box. You may be making a rule for any message coming from this email address. Click on the link at the bottom right of this window, which says "Create filter with this search».

Check the box Never send it to Spam. If you have a label set (such as a folder for email), you can set it here. You can always choose to mark it as important or check to apply the same filter to any existing email from the same address. Finish by creating a filter filter See if it works by sending a test message from your contact form.

If the emails in your contact form are still going to your spam folder, then there is one more thing you can try.

Send mail via SMTP

WordPress defaults to sending email through php mail () Sometimes, by changing this protocol into SMTP, email from your website will be out of your spam folder. There are several plugins that will help you do this problam fix. Many people have taken the oath by the WP Mail SMTP plugin, which is compatible with WordPress version 4.7.2, as of this writing.
